Consumption of travel in Japan increased by 18.3% to 5.6 trillion JPY for the second quarter of 2015

Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) reported that consumption of travel in Japan for the second quarter of 2015 (April to June) increased by 18.3% year on year to 5,592.2 billion JPY, which consisted of 4,108.6 billion yen for over night travel (+19.3%) and 1,483.6 billion JPY for daytrip (+15.6%). The quarterly result was the first year-on-year growth since the first quarter of 2014.

The quarterly total was divided into 1,606.2 billion JPY in April, 2,307.6 billion JPY in May and 1,678.4 billion JPY in June. Both consumptions of overnight and daytrip resulted in year-on-year growths in all of the months.

Japanese travelers in Japan were up 1.6% to 166.8 million for the three months from April to June this year, and the total consisted of 80.5 million overnight travelers (+8.5%) and 86.2 million day-trippers (-4.1%).
