HIS has received the almost same number of Japanese overseas travel bookings during this coming New Year holidays as a year ago

HIS revealed that the number of overseas travel bookings during this coming New Year holidays (December 26 2025 to January 4 2026) was slightly down 0.9% compared to a year ago. The most-booked destination was Seoul, followed by Taipei, Bangkok, Honolulu and Guam. Hong Kong raised its ranking from 10th last year to 8th, and Paris from 12th last year to 9th. 

The average travel cost was up 5.6% to 248,000 yen. The rise in cost resulted from more bookers to Europe and Middle East and the current economic conditions including weak yen and inflation in destinations.

The highest growth rate compared to a year ago was seen in Cairo (up 94.2%) due to grand open of Grand Egyptian Museum, followed by Guam with (up 68.8%) due to three charter flights arranged by HIS. Also, the high growth rates were seen in Barcelona (up 52.4%), Ho Chi Minh (up 16.9%) and Cebu (up 11.7%).

Regarding composition ratios by customer, ‘family with children’ was 37.2%, and ‘couple or married couple’ 21.9%. By age, ‘50s’ was 20%, and ‘20s’ 19.2%.
