The latest Nomura Research Institute (NRI)’s forecast for ICT and media market scale by 2022, focusing on five fields of device, solution, network, platform and contents, finds that mobile phone unit sales including smart phones are expected to increase from 1,990 million in 2014 to 2,280 million in 2022 in the world, and tablet unit sales from 220 million in 2015 to 280 million in 2022 in the world.

In the solution market, the IoT market scale is expected to expand from 520 billion JPY in 2015 to 3,200 billion JPY in 2022. NRI has forecasted that the markets for data center, cloud and information security will largely grow.

In the network market, contracted mobile phone lines in Japan will increase from 154 million in 2015 to 177.9 million in 2022, boosted by a variety of MVNO.
In the platform market, NRI has forecasted that the B2C EC scale will grow from 15.4 trillion JPY in 2015 to 26 trillion JPY in 2022, led by dealings on smart phones and tablets. Also, the internet advertising market is expected to grow considerably as accesses via apps increase, and the smart payment market including Apple Pay or Android Pay is promising.
The contents distribution market scale is expected to increase from 153.1 billion JPY in 2015 to 218.8 billion JPY in 2022, boosted by fixed-charge visual contents services like Netflix and a variety of contents using 4K, AR or VR.
