More than half of Japanese are interested in vacation rental as an option of accommodations, despite low awareness as a whole

Expedia survey on vacation rental in Japan finds that 45% of Japanese respondents are interested in vacation rental as on option of accommodations, although the awareness rate is still low at 19%.

The most attractive vacation rental type is ‘condominium or apartment (64%),’ followed by ‘cottage (59%)’ and ‘private house (53%).’


About health protocols in accommodations, most of the respondents select ‘hotel website (86%),’ much more than ‘travel agents’ websites (51%).’ The most-concerned measure is ‘cleaning with disinfectant (82%),’ followed by ‘sanitizing frequently-touched places (66%),’ ‘setting several sterilization stations (53%)’ and ‘social distancing (53%).’
