Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism enforced new rules for a passenger to bring mobile battery into a flight cabin on April 24 2026.
In addition to the existing rules, a passenger is allowed to bring up to two mobile batteries (less than 160Wh) into a cabin, but is not allowed to recharge a battery and charge to other electric devices.
The new rules in Japan follows the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) ’s emergency amendment in March 2026 in response to an increase in fires caused by lithium batteries in cabins.
