The Japanese government aims to triple food consumption in Japan by inbound travelers to 4.5 trillion yen a year by 2030

The Japanese government recently decided to enhance ‘power to earn money by selling foods overseas’ in new Basic Plan for Food, Agriculture and Rural Area. As one of the efforts, the  government sets a goal to increase consumption on foods by foreign visitors to Japan by about three times to 4.5 trillion yen a year by 2030.

As specific actions,  the government is promoting farm stays in rural areas and delivering information on Japanese foods and agriculture experiences to the world together with Japan Tourism Agency and Japan National Tourism Organization.

The government intends to expand demands for Japanese foods in foreign countries or regions through mutual linkages between export activities and tourism promotion.
