The ratio of internet users on smart phones only is around 30% for 20’s to 40’s and 45% for teens in Japan - Nielsen survey

The internet basic survey, conducted by consumer trend analysis service provider Nielsen, finds that everyday internet users reached 56.1 million in Japan in June 2015, which accounted for 51% of the entire population of 16 years old or older.

Home PC, smart phone, tablet and feature phone are subject to the research.

By device, smart hone users totaled 39.96 million, 1.8 times more than home PC users of 21.65 million. Smart phone users were more than home PC users in the age segments from 10’s to 40’. The ratios of internet users on smart phones only were 45% for teens and around 30% for 20’s to 40’s.

For 50’s, home PC was the main device for internet. For 60’s or older, the ratios of home PC and feature phone were split, and the ratio of smart phone was less than 10%.

The biggest age segment of internet users was 60’s or older with 14.57 million, followed by 30’s and 40’s.
