Uber Japan and Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture, signed  a comprehensive partnership agreement  for countermeasures against over-tourism.

Under the agreement, they are working to optimize pickup locations using the Uber app and to deliver information on local rules and tourism etiquette to users including international tourists.

Uber Japan will set multiple pickup spots in the locations not to interfere traffic, which will be guided to both users and drivers. By guiding users to appropriate pickup spots, the City expects to ease traffic disruption around tourist spots particularly in the tourist seasons of spring and autumn.

They will share information on traffic jam, traffic restrictions or events and discuss how they design the restricted zones or how they can guide users or drivers.

In addition, Uber Japan will let international Uber app users know local traffic rules and tourism etiquette on the app to build a sustainable tourism model for both tourists and local residents.

Uber Japan launched "Uber Taxi" in Fujiyoshida City in September 2025 and "Uber Premium" in January 2026, and these services are used for travel within the city and surrounding areas, primarily by domestic and international tourists.
