The next generation hotel check-in with international-standard digital passport only is tested in Japan

Dai Nippon Printing (DNP) and USEN-ALMEX have begun testing the next generation hotel check-in system using international-standard digital passport. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is working to standardize digital passports internationally, and several countries have begun testing and implementing digital passports.

The test in Japan, targeting travelers from South Korea, is to simplify passport confirmation at a check-in counter by identifying a passport holder with a digital passport on a check-in KIOSK.

Combining the DNP’s strength in advanced security technology, authentication infrastructure, and encryption technology that complies with international standards with USEN-ALMEX’s strength in automated payment machines for hotels and KIOSK terminal, they aim to create a new service to raise travelers’ experience values.

In the test, guest authentication will be carried out using DNP's authentication infrastructure "DNP Distributed ID Management Platform CATRINA," which is equipped with highly secure data management functions and encryption key technology that comply with international standards.

And, by linking the DNP's authentication infrastructure with "PreCheck-in," a kiosk and online advance check-in service for hotels developed by USEN-ALMEX, guest list creation and identity verification will be automated.

The test phase 1 includes technical demonstrations of the prototype KIOSK in face-to-face check-in and evaluation of guest and staff satisfactions at Loisir Hotel Shinagawa Seaside.

The test phase 2 includes demonstrations of non-face-to-face check-in using USEN-ALMEX PreCheck-in and digital passport information at hotels that have implemented the PreCheck-in system to confirm the matching speed, operability, and user experience, and evaluating the labor-saving effects.
